Introduction to Curling

Other Rules of Curling:

There are 4 people per team, the Lead, the Second, the Third and the Skip.

Lead: The Lead throws the first two stones for the team. He also sweeps every other rock for his team.

Second: The Second throws rocks 3 and 4 for the team. He sweeps the Lead's stones, the Third's stones and the Skip's stones.

Third: The Third throws rocks 5 and 6 for the team. He sweeps the Lead's and Second's Stones. The Third also holds the broom for when the Skip throws. Normally, the Third throws takeouts.

Skip: The Skip throws the last two rocks for the team. He holds the broom for everyone else when they throw. The Skip is normally the captain of the team, as the team is named after him. Example: Kevin Martin is the Skip, so the team is called Team Martin.

Sweeping: Sweeping makes the rock go a little bit faster, and it won't curl as much. For most shots, the sweepers are the Lead and Second. When you are sweeping, go as close to the rock as you can but don't touch it. The person sweeping closest to the rock needs to sweep the hardest.

Holding the Broom: The Skip holds the broom for everyone's shot except his own. When you throw the rock, aim for the broom, because it will curl. The Third holds the broom for when the Skip throws.
